Hi y'all!!! Did the newb thing and signed up, then forgotz me password... :* Anyways's

Good to meet a few of you round town on late nights, hopefully I'll get some more time to catch up soon with the rest of you guys...

BenJames - XR5 Mondeo ZzzMondeo%20web%20pic

The splits plus the crossovers were painstakingly mounted into the OEM positions of each door. It looks almost completly stock except for the tweeters...So I'll put a pic of em in anyways Razz

BenJames - XR5 Mondeo Zzzspeakers%201

The original sub box was integrated into the rear parcel shelf and looked fantastic, but the subs would cook each day in the sun while I was at work. So...the subs were shoved into a custom box with the 2 amps above them for a "ghetto style" install which can be removed easily if needed. When the sub box is out the system reverts to the OEM amp for the front splits.

Another pic of the car at Coffs Harbour:

People may have remembered the last car I had which ended up being nothing more than a portable jukebox!!

Hey how are you going and welcome.

Nice mod list you got going on there, and for a fairly new car too, it's impressive. Hope to see you out and about sometime soon.

Cheers for all the praise!!! Don't be shy if ya see us out! Sometimes the mates I'm with are a bit ... loud (mainly due to being a lil drunk), but we are all quite approachable!!! Most of the time they are in bed by 10pm though, which sux because I like to keep going late into the night, which is the best time to cruise (less traffic).

Ha... Yeah, you wouldn't notice that the plate reads mondeo unless it's seen backwards, then it a bit more obvious... Glad someone else actually could tell... YAY!!! $415 wasn't miss spent afterall!!!

I've seen your car out a bit too!!! I'll say hi next time I see ya when I'm out Smile I'm very envious of the amount of mods available for the Focus as opposed to the Mondeo, so I think you made the better choice in the end Embarassed

Cheers!!! Gotta watch out before I put more mods on though.. Couple of ppl with the same engine on the Focus with intake and zorst mods with a heavy tune have had fire balls coming out the zorst at high revs, which looks cool but may be a lil bad for the engine in the long run.

Yeah... Probably would have gone the Kumho KU36s if they didn't have such a loooooow wear rating... I wanna get Lucy to do another photo shoot (when he has time), cause the car has had a few mods since then...

Actually, I did have some Continentals on the car, but at $550 a hoop I wasn't gonna get them again... especially since they lasted only 20,000 kms affraid

Just a bit of fun!!! One of the blokes that was over ere from the states on a Chinook traing course was looking at offloading them at a reasonable price, so I says to im I says, next time he's over I'd take em of his hands... but he ended up coming back over to Aust when I was in the Gan, so he didn't bother bringing them over .... Hopefully he'll be coming over soon, but if not I'll get him to send em via mail... Surface mail will probably take 2 moths plus though Sad but air mail will be waaaaay too costly!!!

The subs will probably end up being in a purpose built box that will probably not see much time in the car... Just fo shizz n giggles!!!

One thing I've been thinking lately though is that they are both dual 1.5 ohm subs, but the amps I have don't like going down past 2ohms without getting hot quickly.... So the subs won't be pumping that hard... due to only being able to be run with the coils in series, ending up with each sub only getting around 600WRMS each, as opposed to the max watts they are capable of.

Ideally I would have liked to have a single W7 on the G-MAX amp, but because they are dual 1.5ohm the G-MAX will not be pumping much out with the coils in series, and with the coils in parrallel the amp will surely die!!!

I still think the mondeo is a mini Aston Martin from behind, which coincedently is my favorite euro car.

Good to meet you mate and we look forward to seeing you out on more cruises etc.

Thanks for the great deal on the DD Brad... I'm thinking of putting it into a 6cuft box and having a DD15" 2515 vs 2x JL 13TW5 subwoofer comparison in the car on the day of the sound off just to see how different they are...

The two JLs will receive the same amount of power as the DD, so it'll be interesting to see the result!!

Well.... the results are:

2 x JL13TW5 (13") with 600WRMS (per sub) in sealed 1.5cuft enclosure = 135.1dB @ 35Hz

BenJames - XR5 Mondeo Jls_bo10

1 x DD2515 (15") with 1200WRMS in ported 6.5cuft enclosure = 140.0dB @ 45Hz

BenJames - XR5 Mondeo Bass_m10

Wendel is da shiz!!! What a Face

Some factors that may have also contributed were:

- Wendel the bass monster's box was right at the back of the car, and had less chance of bass cancellation. Along with this, the ports were tuned to EXACTLY 38Hz, giving the 15" sub a better dB at 45Hz, without reaching Xamx (even though it was in a 6.5cuft box). I also packed as much crap around the sides of the box in the boot area, also to stop bass cancellation, and to give the box walls more support.

- Wendel has 35mm reinforced box walls, the jls have 16mm walls.

- The JL subs had no ports, and they were mid mounted in the boot as far away from any flat walls, so I'm thinking that they had no where near as much help with the car's acoustics. The benefit though is that the JL setup is incredibly linear, and had virtually the same dB from 30Hz to around the 50Hz region.

The SPL winner is the DD....However, the DD required almost the entire boot to do it, whereas BOTH the JLs were in a tiny 1.2cuft enclosure, which weighs only 21 kg (including subs), compared to the 15" enclosure which weighs in at 48kg...

So it's all about compromises I guess... For 5dB more you really have to go without other things.... There is a BIG audible difference in sound though, and the DD "sounds" and feels at least twice as loud.

The DD is very efficient in its big ass box, but it's also very muddy, whereas the JLs are tight, and very musical. The DDs tend to move the air a fair bit, whereas the JLs attack the juggular and the eyes with vicious upper bass snaps!!!..

Soz for anyone that actually read all of this.... geez I can waffle on with crap!!! Wink
